MEMORIES - HOME
EARLY My
husband Rick is a very successful and (busy) orthopedic surgeon so it
seems as if our quiet nights are few and far between. One evening I was
alone our back deck which overlooks a meadow and small stream. I was not
expecting Rick until late as often he slips into bed long after I have
gone off to sleep. I was watching the dusk turn into dark a felt Rick’s
hand slip over my shoulder and heard him say, “I thought this would keep
you warm.” He had in his hands a cup of hot chocolate. As he slid into
our wicker loveseat beside me he explained some mix-up had caused his
schedule to be change and we suddenly found ourselves with a rare
unplanned evening at home together. We often plan a night on the town
when we have a free evening but this evening reminded us that sometime a
quiet evening at home is what we really need. We later drug up a beat up
boombox and a handful of our favorite CD’s and snuggled until the wee
hours of the morning. That night on the deck renewed our commitment to
each other and refreshed our souls. We still do the town occasionally but
we now look forward to a quiet night together as a special treat.
